Weekend Review

We had another great (but not long enough weekend) here in the Nelson household. After a home-cooked dinner and some cutthroat Jeopardy on Friday, we started our Saturday morning nice and early. I was filling in for a Zumba class, and Brad spend his time at the gym doing another crazy leg workout (I'm not sorry that I missed that!).

We didn't waste any time getting ready, and headed to King of Prussia to meet these lovely folks for lunch.

(This is a recycled photos from our last trip to Philadelphia.)

Matt and Shannon met us for lunch, showed me around the King of Prussia office of Brad's company (quite impressive), and showed us the new townhouse they'll be living in after their October wedding. It was a great afternoon with great friends.

Brad can't seem to take a trip to the Philly area without stopping at the Nordstrom Rack, and I (tried) to patiently wait for him to shop. I was pretty excited though, because guess where our next stop was?

Oh yes, it had been way to long since we had taken a trip to Trader Joe's. Now we're fully stocked and ready to go!

Sunday included church, Fuse, an afternoon run (followed by a nap), a visit with the Grizz, and a going away party for some good friends. We're going to miss the Wheeler's, but we're very excited for them to begin their new adventure!

Until next time,

Weekend Festivities

Hi again!

You already heard about what we did on Friday, but here is what the rest of our weekend looked like. Saturday started a bit earlier than normal (at least, for me). I had to work at a special event for most of the day, so we headed out shortly before 8:00 a.m. Brad dropped me off at the event, and was lucky enough to have breakfast with this little lady:

After breakfast Brad joined me at the event and helped out until it was time to clean up and head home. We managed to squeeze in a little nap before heading to Philadelphia for the evening.

Of course, we can't make a trip to Philly without stopping at Trader Joe's, so that's where we headed first. After we stocked up on goodies, we headed to the main event and our reason for the trip: Tieg's surprise 30th birthday party.

You may remember Tieg from our June wedding

We were thrilled when Tieg's boyfriend, Lenny (he's to the right of Tieg in the above photo) invited us to join in her surprise birthday celebration at Giorgio on Pine. We had a great time catching up with old friends (Poo'triever, anyone?) and meeting some new friends. The food was fantastic--since there were about 40 of us, we were serviced a price-fixed menu. We had plenty of appetizers, a pasta dish, our choice of entree, and delicious dessert. The best part of the evening--seeing Tieg's surprised face as she entered the room!

We headed back to the Lehigh Valley after our late dinner. If you know us, you know that we're not used to staying out late. Coupled with the time change on this weekend, we were pretty wiped out on Sunday. After church, we were lucky enough to spend a few hours with this little lady:

Isn't Charlotte adorable? Her mom and dad were house-hunting, so we hung out for a little while. It was lots of fun!

We spent the rest of the day on Sunday getting ready for the week, napping (yes, again), and eating a delicious homemade dinner.

What did you do this weekend?

Saturday in Philadelphia

On Saturday morning, Brad and I headed out in the morning to grab some breakfast and do some exploring. We found a little coffee shop close to the hotel, and had some great, freshly-baked pastries for breakfast.

After breakfast, we headed out to do some exploring. I took along my wonderful new camera and tried to get some good pictures of the city. I'm definitely still learning about my new camera, but managed to get a couple of good shots.

A little bit before noon we met up with Matt and Shannon. After stopping at the Comcast building and Love Park, we made our way to the Reading Terminal Market. Brad had seen a piece about Tony Dinick's pork sandwiches on the Food Network and was dying to try it. After checking out the market, Brad and Matt waited in line for about 20 minutes to get the sandwiches while Shannon and I scoured the market looking for a place to sit. We all met up and everyone seemed to enjoy their lunch.

We spent some more time in the market (Brad bought some cheese, are you surprised?) and walked around the city before parting ways. We always enjoy spending time with Matt and Shannon.

After a much-needed stop at Trader Joe's, Brad and I headed back to the Lehigh Valley. We had a great time in Philly, and are definitely excited to go back. That trip might have to wait a bit, though…before too long, we're headed somewhere warm… :)

Blessings!

Date night in Philly

On Friday, Brad and I had a very special date night in Philadelphia. As part of his Christmas gift, I made dinner reservations at Le Bec Fin, a George Perrier restaurant. We decided to stay overnight and make a little vacation out of it, so we headed to Philadelphia on Friday afternoon.

After checking in to the hotel, we explored a little bit of Philadelphia before getting ready for the evening.

This week was Restaurant Week in Philadelphia, and below is the tasting menu that we were able to choose from at Le Bec Fin:

Please excuse the blurry iPhone photos, but it wasn't really the appropriate atmosphere to break out my wonderful new camera!

As an appetizer, Brad had the snails (which he said were fabulous), and I went for the salad. As a main course, Brad had the steak, and I went with the salmon.

For dessert, I had the cake with ice cream, and Brad chose the key lime pie.

We had a great time, and the food was fantastic!

We spend the rest of the evening exploring the city. On Saturday, we were fortunate to be able to meet up with our friends Matt and Shannon. More on that tomorrow!

Enjoy your Sunday,
-Nikki
